and eats it? i went to school with this boy that would pick at his hand (palm) and then eat it! his hand was raw.. oh and he was 17 not some little kid

Yeah! We had this Nun for a religion teacher in school when I was around 15 and her arms were full of scabs and she used to pick at them all the time. Her name was Sister Ann but we christened her Scabby Ann!

I had a babysitter when I was a kid that would chew her nails so far down there was hardly anything left. Her hands looked really gross. I think its just a more serious form of a nervous habit.
