How can the Portuguese police say they have a new suspect but wont say anything as is customary in Portuguese law, then on the other hand detectives are saying Kate McCann had killed her own daughter. This does'nt add up. There is some sort of conspiracy going on.

I agree with Ladybugs77: it's all too confusing. The family says Kate is now a 'suspect'. Then we're told that police have offered her a 'deal' of two years - or less - if she confesses to MURDER!! Then police say they found blood stains in a rental car, which the husband claims wasn't rented until three days after the little girl was abducted!!
I think you might be right: there seems to be some kind of conspiracy going on here.....or, at best, a kind of "keystone cops" scenario where everyone's stumbling over each other. -RKO- 09/07/07

Now that the Portuguese police have the Kate and Gerry nicely tied down (they cant leave Portugal and can be called for questioning on a whim) and Team McCann chirping loudly from the rooftops they can probe a little. The shoe is on their foot now.
Edit - Stef J - you were cool headed before you are starting to sound naive, has this rattled you ? Do you want me to real off miscarriages of justice in the UK ? Remember at this very moment the UK's Top Police officer is getting pressure to resign as 'not fit for purpose'. Well, considering the way that the McCanns have been bashing the Portuguese authorities (cause we know the McCanns are completely innocent of ever doing anything wrong, like... oh, I don't know, neglecting their children!) I wouldn't be surprised if the police disclosed every bit of information available to make the McCanns little smear campaign backfire.

uncles sisters fathers etc are repeating everything gerry and kate are telling them
if they have enough info to turn her from a wittness to a suspect then they must have something on her i want to know why she is aloud to talk to gerry about her interview he is still only a wittness

"Customary in Portuguese Law" ????. what are you talking about, It is Custom and practise for the Portuguese police is not to normally release information to the Press. Hence all the speculation. I didn't realise they had a Law requiring disclosure of Information.
secondly, the information regarding the accusation that Kate McCann killed her daughter, came from the Family Spokeswoman not the Police, All they have said is that she is now a Person of Interest.
I have Always believed the McCanns Guilty As sin, But lets keep the facts straight.

The new suspect is Kate McCann.they are saying that the DNA tests have come back and it proves positive on a swab they took from there hire car,the one they hire 25 days after Maddy went missing.it has found traces of her blood in it.But they haven't accused the father only the mother.They even offered her a deal,if she admitted to it she would get 2years or less!.What the hell is going on! if and i mean if she had anything to do with that poor little girl going missing she should be banged up for life not given a easy way out
