Everyone has their favorites and I am no different. It really comes down to what you like personally. However, I am putting a site here for your viewing. It is the Reader's Poll for the Best of San Antonio and the critics choices form the local paper. I don't agree with all the choices, especially the national chains instead of the better but smaller local restaurants.

My favorites are Mi Tierra or La Margarita's, The Tower (in the Tower of the America's...its expensive, but worth the view and the atmosphere, also, if you go, the margarita cheesecake for dessert is a MUST) or Magic Time Machine.
You really cant go wrong in San Antonio if you stick to the fairly local (or locally owned) places. Stay away from chains like Fridays and Chilis and such. San Antonio has the best restaurants in the country in my opinion, there is no need for those bland same-ol-same-ol places. And you have to go with local Mexican/Tex-Mex places, Barbecue joints or steak houses.

Go downtown past Durango St. on South Alamo. Three restaurants come to mind. Titos, a family owned ma & pa type of mexican restaurant; Rosarios for the more hip crowd wonderful mexican food, a little more expensive and you might even run into Tommy Lee Jones or even Sandra Cisneros or Naomi Shihab Nye and her husband. I once saw Lance Armstrong there. Then, there is Madhatters. They are right across from Titos. This is cuisine at it's best. Ymm.

Now don't get me wrong I love Mexican food and eat it often, but if we go out I want what I am not going to get at home. My parents live in a sea port in southern New England, so I grew up with foods from the sea and I miss this food so for me the best places are Sea Island, Joe's Crab shack, the Captian's Galley
