squeeze a lemon, add hot water and a good spoonful of honey. Even if it doesn't do anything it tastes nice! There's not much you can do for a cold anyway besides aspirin. Try gargling aspirin if you have a sore throat. Take paracetamol if you have a temperature. The only thing you can do is to sit it out and milk it for all the sympathy you can get!

Sick foods I've used in the past:

1. Chicken flavored Ramen noodles: make up the package and throw in some extra veggies if you have any. It's the almost instant version of chicken noodle. Thowing on some pepper might open up your sinuses a bit.

2. Jello...never hurts to have a package or two on hand. It's soft and jiggly, so it goes down pretty easily, even with a sore throat. Generic jello works just as well as the name brand stuff.

3. Hot lemonade. Heat up water and mix with lemon juice (bottled or freshly squeezed works). Mix with some honey for taste if you wish.

4. Saltwater garlge...helps with getting rid of germs in the throat area. Do this a few times a day

5. Tea (any kind) with lemon and honey. Provides vitamin C, soothes throat, also helps naturally kill germs

6. Crackers or Pretzels...can be helpful if stomach is a bit upset from drainage.

7. Fruits...provides liquids and excellent source of vitamin C. You might be able to mix the juices with some water as another source of fluids.

8. Beg friends and family to pick up some stuff for you to eat as you're not able to get out....or have them make stuff that you can just reheat at home.

Give yourself fever treatments.

Raising the body's temperature to 102º to 104ºF mimics the natural fever response to viruses. Viruses are killed at temperatures only slightly warmer than the human body.

Immerse yourself in a hot bath. Cover the parts of your body not under the water with towels soaked in the bathwater. Continue until your temperature by mouth remains 102º to 104º for twenty minutes. Then pour cold water over yourself, dry off, and go to bed for an hour or two to let the treatment take effect. Do this daily.

Well the naturopathic way would be to eat less and drink more fluids. Use a humidifier in your room especially while sleeping. Recommended supplements would be to take Echinaccea and Goldenseal which will increase your immunity to fight off that cold. Herbal teas with peppermint will help free up congestion. Lots of rest.

This may require a little money if you do not have these ingredients on hand but, my doctor and I swear by this remedy for colds, bronchitis, pneumonia(not a substitute for antibiotics). Brew Your favorite tea in a pan add a pinch of cayenne pepper, grated ginger and garlic*(*this is optional) strain and then you may add as much honey as you like to taste, you can use sugar if you do not have honey. This tea is an exceptional expectorant but it does not taste very good! Drink as much of it as you can stomach through out the day until you feel better. We gave this tea to my father in law when he had double pneumonia and it helped to clear up his lungs much more quickly than the antibiotics alone.

if you are sick you should NOT eat sugar in any form, it will make you sicker. chew up a clove of raw garlic (probably not before you go out!) daily. make chicken stock (organic if you can) and drink lots and lots of it. for a little money, go to your health food store and buy bulk (so you can just get a little and it won't be too expensive) astralagus root, burdock root, echinacea root, and schisandra berries. you'll need a tablespoon or so of each except the schisandra, you only need 12 berries. add these when you make your stock. make sure you eat lots of onions, garlic, cayenne, and turmeric. ginger tea ( a 2-inch piece of ginger, sliced and simerred, covered, in water for 45 min) with honey helps if you have chills.
