I do. This was a critical part of my recent emotional growth. Before I couldn't see the difference between something IS beautiful and I THINK it's beautiful. One day I realized that when I say something is beautiful what I really mean is that I get some type of positive feelings when I look at it. It's pleasing to me somehow. But the feelings are in me. Not in the object I'm looking at. If someone else looks at it they may not say the same thing. Artwork is a good example of this. Some pieces of art really grab certain people and do nothing for others. There are some things that you can get many people or almost everyone to agree on. But still, we as humans see it as beauty. For instance a male lion and a male giraffe could both look at any human female and get nothing, whereas any human male might see her as attractive.
I've also realized that the positive feelings I get when I look at certain things has something to do with being human and also with the meaning I have attatched to them. A well built car engine can be beautiful to someone because a well built engine means power, and that power means a fast car, which means dominance over his buddies cars, something that particular guy may be interested in. A diamond may look especially good to a person if that person thinks the diamond means love, or commitment or prestige. Someone else may look at that diamond and say "yeah, it's cool the way it sparkles and all, but it's really no big deal". But it doesn't have that same glow as someone who looks at it and sees love, prestige and so on.
I think this is critical. I can now see this. But at earlier points in my life I couldn't see this difference. If I thought something was beautiful that meant it WAS beautiful. I think it is an exampe of an ego boundary, or lack of one rather. Me and the outside world were one. I think, therefore it is.
Right on though Nenna. You're asking some very good questions. Keep going. You will find the answers you're looking for.

Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder - we all know someone who is not classically beautiful but the personality makes that person truly beautiful. Unfortunately, we all know the opposite as well. True beauty just shines, can't be missed.

True beauty is the size of the heart and the purity of the soul. Outer beauty is a ruse and often used as a weapon against another gender to gain a strategic foothold.

whatever the media dictate us. media being, in the ancient times: paintings/sculptures in public places... now: TV/internet/etc...

add: do you honestly believe men who say it's important for a woman to be beautiful inside? only as much as they care about our gallbladder. they only find beautiful what the honorable media dictate them.
