I feel sad when I see other families working together in harmony and moving their lives ahead. I feel bad about my own life and how it did not work out.

I wonder where I went wrong and how I could have fixed things in my marriage.

People have good jobs, homes, make good money and really focus on their children.

What is the best way to deal with this feeling?

Gee stareyes you are wanting what every other female in the world wants. Did you really go wrong by choosing the path less trodden? Sometimes the best laid plans are not necessarily the best plans so we as a whole can do one of two things. If you do not like the way your life is then it is time to make the ultimate plan and CHANGE IT- it is within your power to do so- it just depends on how much you want change. Dealing with feelings is an every day thing and when negative thoughts and wishful dthinking creep in then it is time to start thinking sunny. Sometimes we need to be GRATEFUL for what is in front of us instead of being envious of those who APPEAR to have it all. Only YOU have the power to change what ever is bothering you by confronting and dealing with the issues at hand.

You could be happy that at least some families can feel this joy you miss.
But also keep in mind that there's really no such thing as a "nondysfunctional" family and that perhaps some families that seem all peachy on the outside have their own dark, hidden problems.

I had been saddened by my parents divorce for some time until I realised that had they stayed together, they'd only be a miserable, fighting couple.

There is no recipe for happiness, and there is no such thing as a perfect family. When you see other people having what seems to be a good life just be happy for them and enjoy your good moments as they last.

Once I heard the Spanish singer Miguel Bosé answer to the question "are you happy?" saying something like this: Happiness is not a continuous state, it is pieces and moments that we take from life. So I can be happy one moment and not the next one. I just try to take as many pieces and moments as I can, and enjoy them as they last.
