my 88 Lincoln is going to the junkyard the engine blew. what is the metal in catalytic converters that is worth so much money? and as the Lincoln has two converters on it what am i apt to get for them?

the metal is platinum dust or pellets it deteriorates when you cut the converters out shake them if they sound like sand or a marracca then theres plenty of platinum in there about thirty dollars worth a piece

Platinum. Prices vary. You would have to call a place that recycles converters to get a price.

Platinum was used, may still be used. I know that auto makers have been looking for a less expensive material to use.
As for value, first you will need to find some one who buys it, then they can tell you (as it will need to be refined).

I don't know what the going rate is, but the metal that is so valuable in them is platinum.
