quotient is division
difference means subtraction
doubled => times 2

x/3 = 2x - 5 <== multiply everything by 3
x = 6x - 15 <== subtract 6x over to other side
-5x = -15 <== divide by -5

The quotient of a number and three...

N/3

...is the same as the difference of the number doubled and five...

2N - 5

N/3 = 2N - 5

Multiply both sides by three

N = 6N - 15

Move the 6N over to the left side

-5N = -15

Divide

N = 3

Test it out.

The quotient of the number and 3 is one.
Double three is six...minus five is one.

Check!
