The oil from your skin will cause a hot spot and will cause it to burn out very fast!

Most halogen bulbs come with a protective foam wrap around them. Use this for installing the bulb and avoiding skin oil from getting on the bulb and creating a hot spot.

Yes that is true. The glass on a halogen lamp gets extremely hot. Any oil from your skin will cause an uneven distribution of that heat. Same with anything that leaves any residue on the lamp.

This is a new one for "urban legends" I never heard this one before.
After reading everyone answer, I recant and apologies, you learn something new everyday. That's what I get for not having a halogen light.

yes the oil from your finger print will cause a hot spot and the bulb will burn out

I dont know for sure but the package they come in always tells you not to handle the bulb.

Thats rigth, any oil on your fingers will cause it to burn out quickly. Just use a kleenex. No problem
