I think Buffalo has a great chance again this year. With the way Lindy Ruff is mixing up the lines and creating the "dream team" lines, he has a real oppourtunity to feel out the first few games of the season and see who clicks with who.
Where as in the past the lines were set and they didn't produce well.
So yes I think Buffalo will make it. Stanley Cup team? Well that remains to be seen how well the other teams perform as well.

Easily, in fact, while the team probably won;t be first overall, they should comfortable make the playoffs. The addition of Connolly for a full season (whom Ruff calls Buffalo's best player) will ease the loss somewhat. Asking Vanek, Afinofenov, Pominville, Roy, Hecht, and Stafford to pick up an extra 3-4 goals each over the course of the season should not be that difficult to do either.
So, the loss won't be that noticeable. The Sabres were only 5 games over .500 in the second half anyway so the league figured them out at then end. That translates to a 92 point season and I see them at that or better next year

uhh sniper the sabres are going to come in 5th and make it into the playoffs without a doubt! they might even make it back into the conference finals again with all of the young talent that still remains on the team. if any other team lost briere drury and zubrus they would be counted out of the playoffs in a heartbeat. but not the buffalo sabres. look for them to be a huge surprise this season.

absolutely i believe they can get into the playoffs we still have tons of talent some of the younger guys will have more of a role dont forget who we still have and also Stafford who was a major part of the team last season and he will have a permenant spot on the team now and just as long as our gus stay healthy we really need a healthy Tim Connolly he is alot of people have forgotton how good he can really be because he was out last season for 81 games i actually thnk that we will do just as well w/o Drury and Briere no we may not win 10 in a row at the start of the season but we will be ok

Not really a Sabre's fan, but I expect them to finish in the top 5 in the east. Losing both Brier and Drury will require some adjustments, but there is still a lot of talent there. IMO, they lost too much to remain number one, but not enough to cause a full scale slide. Good Luck.

They'll definitely make the playoffs.....but an outstanding year most likely won't happen. I think Drury and Briere will prove to be big loses.
Sabres fans definitely have reason for optimism though, big seasons from a couple young players could make things interesting.

Like I'm Telling You really does know his stuff. Pretty much took the words out of my mouth, however I will add that I could see them possibly still finishing first but 4th seems more likely. While they should get enough goals, even with the loss of Drury and Briere (Connolly and Stafford will step it up), I question how their leadership will do. They both were captains, they can replace the offence but not the character.
Also, once they get to the play-offs, they still need size and grit to elude another exit before the finals.

OF COURSE.. I'll tell you why. The Sabres don't rely on ONE player. They roll out four solid lines, plus a great defense. IF anything is going to hurt them, and I've said this from the beginning is Miller. He's good, but not the answer in net. IF anything keeps them from the playoffs or getting further into the playoffs it will be the suspect goaltending of Miller.

Sure. It takes more than two players to make it to the playoffs.
