Ok the humane society cam to our house the other day and tried to give us a citation on our horses and i refused to sign , They took pictures of my horses and etc without my permission and since i refused to sign the citation and was rude to the officer , the head of the Humane Society is coming to our house to inspect himself and in a very blunt way pretty much told us he was gonna be very nitpicky and he had the right to seize out animals. I looked at there website online and it says they are privately owned so, do the actually have the right to take our horses? And note* our animals are absolutely fine , there not skinny, or abused...for the full store and pics of our animals see my question titled "Humane Society ..make there own rules" in the horse section of yahoo answers/

Yes, the privately owned Humane Society can seize your animals if the Society has a contract with your city/county/state to act as the local animal control agency.

Privately owned, but licensed by your state to enforce the laws of your state concerning treatment of animals.

Others have suggested that you contact your local authorities to verify status of Humane Society in matters like yours. Regardless of what cause the HS may have, you should do this.

I would call your city animal control office and report them, if there really is nothing wrong with your animals. What were they saying was wrong? if it is fixable, try and fix it before animal control gets there.... Animals are considered property, and if they take them that could be considered stealing if they dont have the proper authority. So find out through your citys animal control office.

It doesn't matter if they are privately owned, it appears the state granted them the ability to seize animals and enforce laws regarding their care.

What i really want to know, is what kind of condition are these horses in that you have the humane society after you about it?

Sounds like if they have an "officer" then they have some sort of contract with the city.

Yes they can. Clearly if there wasn't a issue with your horses they wouldn't be at your house to begin with.
