One that has passed the state bar. Theres a lot of jail house lawyers. You'll want one that is a criminal defence trial expeirenced. Most likely it'll never get to trial, it'll be settled out of court plea bargained. SO thats what you'll be looking for in a lawyer to handle an assault case.

You need a lawyer that specializes in criminal law. You can use the American Bar Association website http://www.abanet.org/lawyerlocator/searchlawyer.html to find one in your area. Some of the lawyers have been rated and all of them list their specialty. Good luck!

You need a trial lawyer with good experience in that area. (Your brother in law who's a real estate attorney wont' do).
