Four months is fine. Doctors recommend waiting until 6 months, but if your child can hold its head up and sit supported, he's ready. If he gags and bawks at the cereal, wait a while before trying it again.

Every person is differ. I know some people who a week after the child was born they gave it to them. Doctors always say wait but it is bull. You do it when you feel you think your child is ready. I started giving my son cereal at about 2 months at first a little in his bottle and then normal. The baby rice cereal. Any kind of the Gerber is good. By about 8 months he was eating normal cereal. I started my son early on everything. Before he was one he was already eating adult food. Same with my best friends son and daughter.

Pediatricians generally say to start at 4-6 months. There are 2 basic milestones your baby needs to reach.
1. Can your baby hold her head up? Good head control is important!
2. Absence of the "extrusion" reflex. Meaning baby doesn't push everything right out of her mouth.
Also, the reason rice cereal is recommended first is b/c it is a single ingredient and easier to digest for their immature digestive systems. Also, by giving single ingredient foods, you can better monitor food allergies.

The recommendation now is to wait until 6 months before introducing any solids. Early solid introduction has been linked with allergies and childhood obesity, as well as digestive track issues. I skipped cereal all together because it is heavily processed. It is stripped of its vitamins and iron, then fortified with synthetic vitamins and iron, which can mess with the way the body naturally absorbs those nutrients from food. I started my babies on Avocado at 6 months, and then went onto zucchini, waiting 3 days before introducing a new food to be careful of any food allergies.

It depends on the baby! If he is healthy and strong, you can try at 3 months. It is recommended that cows milk is not used until they are at least 6 months but the Government, the scientists, the doctors and the midwives don't know your son as well as you do. If you feel he is ready to move onto solids, try him. If he's not ready he won't take to it. You can start with something like Farleys Rusks to start, just make sure he eats more of them than you do LOL and as he starts teething, give him whole Rusks to chew on. I had my daughter on minted lamb and vegetables by the time she was 6 months. However, being a man, her Health Visitor didn't dare argue about it LOL Remember, people all develop at different speeds. Some babies will be walking at 12 months, others wait until 2 years. Some have to wear nappies until they are 3 years old, others are using toilets at 18 months. It's your son and you know what stage of his development he is at. If you think it's time to move towards solids, then do it.

Just because they reach a certain age or are holding their head up doesn't mean their insides can digest the cereal yet.
Doctors these days recommend 6 months--as much as you might want to earlier, their little bodies are so delicate and new, they CAN'T digest the cereals. It gives them constipation, predisposes them to obesity and can cause life-long allergies.
Wait as long as you can, six months is the minimal ideal

I am a mother of 5 girls. their doctor has put them on cereal as early as 2weeks. If you feel your baby isn't getting enough to eat and is always hungry, then go for it. Watch the baby for any changes (constipation, diarrhea)

If it's what your baby is ready for. My baby started watching us eat and making chewing motions when he was 2 months old. I started rice cereal with him at 12 weeks. My daughter, I started at 16 weeks. Some babies aren't ready until 6 months. It's all about your baby, not a specific age. They should be sitting up in the high chair (not slumped). You could try, but if it comes right back out, try again in a few days or weeks. Start with rice since it's least allergenic.

Four months is the youngest age you can start feeding baby solids, its recommended to wait until closer to six months. The earlier you start the more at risk your child is to develop food allergies.
We started at 5 1/2 months with both of our children.
