Yes, I do a little. ^_^ Ok, more than a little....

Search the site below for the whole phrases "geo-dynamo" and "magnetic field inversion".

http://www.sciam.com/

Point of it is, we are *overdue* for the earth's magnetic field to flip, north for south. And...when the earth's magnetic field does this, once every 7000 years or so, it has a habit of taking a few centuries to flip over, during which time it gets really weak.

In particular, the article that search should point you to--from a year or so ago--shows that from 1980 to 2000 alone, that we've had a serious weakening of the earth's magnetic field already, and lots more anomalies show up for it (places where the north-south lines are flipped or altered).

And what keeps solar flares from cutting through our atmosphere and triggering *auroras* all over the place, and not just at the Poles? ^_^ Yep, you've got it, our planetary magnetic field. So it isn't just an increase in solar flares....

It's also a weakening of our main means of protection against them that has me concerned, not just for my computer mind you, but pretty much for anything electrical in nature. *Anything* that runs on alternating current from power lines *above ground level* could get torched, not just your computer....because the FCC (at least in the United States) specifies that all electrical and electronic devices *must* "accept any radio frequency interference that comes in, and not produce any such interference itself." And while there are loopholes for things like magnetically shielded computer speakers and the like....there's nothing there for protecting our stuff from a serious solar flare incident *combined* with a geo-dynamo failure.

So yeah....it could be a bigger problem than folks think.

Just saying...thanks for your time! ^_^

It's never happened to me so I don't worry about it. I've never heard about the sunspot thing.

It is about time the world should be aware of Al Gore's campaign in global warming that affected our conditions on ''Live Earth.''
