Richard nixon proposed Universial health care in 1973.
His democratic controlled congress tabled him proposal and refused to allow it out of committee.
Just like the democratic controlled congress tabled Clintons universial care bill in 1994 and refused to allow it out of committee.

Republicans couldn't stay true to their platform and come up with something called "Universal Health Care." It would have to be something different than any plan in existence currently.
Republicans believe this falls in the purview of the states, not the federal government, except where interstate commerce might come into play (such as in cities that border several states, etc).
But, Democrats would oppose anything they didn't come up with and they will force onto the rest of us something we don't want. That's the way they operate!

The democrats would call it the stupidist idea and find 1,000 reasons why it will not work. But since they have introduced it, its the best thing since sliced bread and regardless of how bad other systems are and what they cover, ours will be better because we will have learned by their mistake.

Conservatives would oppose it because the only way it can be funded is by raising taxes. Theres no such thing as a free lunch.

Possibly, however, universal health care is a democrat inspired socialist theory that will never happen.
