Turn their branches into long, thin, creaking arms and reach out towards you with their long, twiggy fingers. The hole the squirrel made is the mouth opening into a sneer as the trunk bends towards you and its creepy hands are nearly there. The other trees, out of reach of you, are making creepy whispering noises to freak you out when you think you can feel something brush you and you turn to see its just the branch of a tree...

They cease to be a part of your perception and thus any thoughts about them become meaningless in the same way that everything that is not present in your here and now is a meaningless concept about which nothing is worth discussing. What is more: Even if one turns back round and percieves the tree once more, one can know nothing about it that is meaningful. At human level, perception is reality

similar to the argument me and my 9 year old daughter have.
