Is it a v-belt pulley or a serpentine pulley?
If it's serpentine I'd say there too much at risk to even think about installing it. If it's a v-belt you need to see if it still turns true. If it does then you need to consider if the dent or chips will come into conact with the belt. If they do you'll end up putting more belts on your car if you use it.

Assuming that you are talking about the good old V-belt pulley vs. a newer serpentine belt pulley:

V-belt. If the dent will cause the belt to be pinched then I would not use it as this will likely chew up the belt in short order. If it does not pinch the belt then I wouldn't worry about it.

If it is a serpentine belt pulley, the same applies except that there is more belt to chew up and it would not fail as quickly.

In either case, if the dent is to the inside where it will pinch or rub on the belt you can try to grind off or file off the dent so it does not intrude into the belt space.

Good Luck!

Unless there is considerable damage to the pulley there are only two things you have to worry about. One is that it will wear the belt prematurely. If there is any roughness, or nicks, chips etc where the belt rides, it can wear the belt out faster. The other problem would be if the pulley was out of balance, or missing material. If much of the pulley material is missing, or displaced it will throw it out of balance and wear out the bearings where it mounts.

Most likely you will not have a problem, but look the pulley over carefully for what I mentioned.

You do not say for what purpose the pulley will be installed in your car and where. From what you say, I understand that the pulley has been bent on the sides. The effects can be:-

a) She will throw off the belts at speed
b) By not running true will affect its mounting
c) Create vibrations in the car

I would suggest you find an undamaged pulley.
