A brick takes 1kg of sand. A block will take 3kg.
3 x 800 = 2.4 metric tons. Due to wastage etc.. get 3 ton.

How do you mean lay concrete blocks?
Are you building a wall?
Is it a 9inch retaining wall or a four inch block wall?
Are you making a walkway? - what is the ground like?
Are they concrete block paving or dense concrete blocks?
If you are building a wall - then it is going to be a high long wall!
It sounds like you are building an extension!
Where you will prob need 3 ton of builders sand!
If it is block paving then you need to work out the total area.
more info please if you can!

800 concrete blocks is 16 sq m if they are standard 200x100 size.
Roughly 2 tons of sand equates to 1 cubic metre (more accurately it is normally 1.6 - 1.7 tons compacted). So at an average bed depth of 50mm 1 ton should be enough for 10 sq m.
Check the depth of sand bed and work it out.
All the best

you,ll probably be better off buying the ready to use mortar because you can now buy it so that it won,t go hard for 24 hours and you can get it delivered in smaller amounts
