No I don't think he is in it for the money that is just something everyone needs to survive. It must be nice though to be able to do something you love and make a living at it. Read the book On Writing if you want a closer look into why Stephen King writes. And honestly I don't think he was in it for the money, he wanted to produce something people would buy and enjoy, they get what they want, he gets what he needs, and he does what he loves. It's good for everyone.

Not anymore. Though you never know with those who have vast sums of money... frequently they feel a strong need to acquire more.
But I'd say Mr. King has all he needs. And yes, I think he was "always that way," whatever way you mean. He got a little more that way after an accident, but he was always onto horror like moss on a rock---on the under side of the rock.
In fact he's a master hand at it. I lost my taste for his books (which I had thought wonderful) with "Cujo," so unnecessary an ending... really ugly. But a lot of folks still go for it, and I hear some more recent series of his is really good, and I know he's amongst (among?) the first of the big authors to offer his new book free online to PDA (or whatever the gadget's called)... which is also cool. And I guess it tells us about the $$$, too.

Stephen King is not only a brilliant writer but an avid reader himself. I can't say after reading all of the reviews and articles he has written, let alone his independent work that I could ever imagine him not completely LOVING what he does. I'm sure he doesn't mind the fortune but he is a private person and does get irritated with the fame. (I read an article where he talked about his family taking their vacation every year at Halloween because people love to come to his house hoping to see something scary.)

Isn't every author in it for the money? His article how to write 10 books a day shows he isn't insane. He admits he prefers to write horror stories. Sometimes he does write a few how to's. There's Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself.. a how not to fear book by Stephen King. He is an excellant writer.. He is #2 in my books.. Angela Landsbury is #1 in my books.. Murder stories are more interesting that scare stories! Almost all writers are in it for the money! Why write if there's no reward? I myself am a writer!

He actually cares about literature. A recent example of this is him voicing concern over JK Rowling potentially killing off Harry Potter in her final book. He wasn't making money off of it, and it's the end of the series for her. He cared more about the work itself, where it had gone and what it meant to the human populace.
I don't know if he was always like that but I'm sure that like most people his views on life and how he sees things have changed their shape at least to some extent as time wears on everything.

Of course not. In fact, he nearly went totally broke early in his career, but writing was in his blood.
Admittedly, some of his writing is boring or stupid, but some of it is absoluetly fanstastic. Why such a range? Because he writes something on the order of 5,000 words per day. Some of it he gets published, some of it is just so the demons in his head have a place to live other than his head.
I doubt, even if he lost his gazillion dollar bank account, he could write that much each day without a driving passion to do it.

Maybe 30 years ago when he was a struggling writer looking to get his first book, Carrie, Published. After that he didn't have to worry about money and now he's one of this country's wealthiest men. He's in it for the glory now and he's been one helluva writer.
