Just because what is done to girls is worse doesn't make it okay to mutilate a baby boy's genitals. FGM is truly horrific, but have you ever watched a video of a male circumcision? Babies often go into shock from the extreme pain, and sometimes they die. All for a fashion preference in penis appearance. To me that is very, very sick!

Circumcision is many times accomplished for looks, form of like cropping in puppy dogs at present. That 'it is greater hygienic' situation is referred to as a delusion, no count if the boy is circumcised or no longer he will nonetheless ought to bathe.

lisa: Don't you understand, the boy is NOT given a choice in the matter either. The girls parents get her "circumcised" too by their choice. The boy's parents take away his choice just like the girls parents do!
Female "circumcision" is done at the insistence of the girl's mother who very often is the one that holds her down for the procedure. "It is for her own good" is the reasoning.

in those cultures when they circumcise a female there is no anesthesia and they don't usually just remove a little flap of skin. They usually take all or most of the cliterous off and some times they cut the labia off or sew it together leaving just a small to pee. When they get married they have it cut open or it just gets ripped open by sex. I think there is a HUGE difference here!

i too think it's an abuse but it's not genital mutilation. doing this to a girl can cause irreversable damage. It's a cultural and religious practice that was once thought to be a cleaner more visually appealing result. You would be happy to know that fewer and fewer parents are choosing this unecessary procedure

Are you talking about the practice of "female genital mutilation" that has been showcased on shows such as Oprah?
If so, there are two big differences.
1. FREE WILL and choice. Women in those countries are forced, violently in most cases, to have it done. As a parent of a baby boy, you have the choice of circumcision.
2. AGE. Boys are circumcised at birth. There seems to be great debate about whether babies feel the pain of circumcision. Feel it or not, they certainly don't remember it! Women who are victims of genital mutilation are children, teens, and women of all ages really. It is not only horrifically painful, but also traumatic.
Kudos to you for asking a difficult question. Talking about these issues only serves to educate ourselves and helps teach others something they may not have knowledge about!

first of all the cultures that practice this are known for power and control over women. There are few cultures where the women volunteer to do this as a means of support because they are paid a certain amount of money for it.
Circumscision began as a religious practice today it can be for cleanliness...Removing a little extra skin doesnt prevent a man from sexual arousal and peak. Removing the cliterous does

To circumcise a girl do you mean to remove the clitoris? I would imagine. That would mean she would never be able to have an orgasm and would never enjoy sex. That is a huge difference from circumcising a boy.

Because men can still have pleasurable sex with no foreskin. Women can not enjoy sex with no clitoris. If the head of a man's penis was removed, he couldn't enjoy sex could he? That's what the clit is equivalent to in a female. Simple as that.
