In the 50s, Kids did a lot of "Drag Racing" on Weekend nites, and they used to use a "Teen-Queen" (No, a FEMALE!) to start these races, usually by dropping or waving a scarf or handkerchief... After a while, girls discovered boys & vice-versa, so there were, consequently, NO girls left to be "Starters".
However, after the guys determined that they actually NEEDED someone to start the race, they were forced to take other measures: They picked the most grody, ugly, and un-popular boy available, dressed him in sexy women's clothing to simulate the long-gone women, and put a checkered flag in his hand.
THUS was born the legendary "Drag Queen"!!!

I don't know, but I can tell you where the word "drag" comes from. In Shakespeare's time, women were not permitted to act on stage. All women's parts were played by beardless young boys. When a "woman" came on the stage, the stage direction read "DRessed As Girl" -- DRAG.

For an interesting look at a male actor playing female roles at a later period in history (the Restoration in the late 1600s), see the film "Stage Beauty", starring Billy Crudup.

For a look at the same phenomenon in Japan, see the film "M Butterfly" starring Jeremy Irons.

Back in the day it is sometimes believed that the term was taken from theatres and shows when the men would appear in dresses. In the script the acronym DRAG was written meaning "dressed as girl."

As we continue to pervert and pimp out our society and our morality, we always test the waters to see how much further we can push the envelope. Can we get away with this? WHat about that... etc?
In another 10 years the crap people will be doing sexually will be beyond the pale of societal decency and homosexuality is a key part of that decline.
