Based on your information, you have the following equations:

L = W + 90.
2L + 2W = 1280.

Solving for W, you have:
2(W + 90) + 2W = 1280.
2W + 180 + 2W = 1280.
4W = 1100.
W = 275.

And as a result, L = 275 + 90 = 365.

L= length W= width P= perimeter

P = 2(L+W) and then you were given that L=W+90
So you replace L by W+90 in the formula of the perimeter

P=2(W+90+W) =2(2W+90)

(2W+90)=P/2 = 1280/2 = 640

2W+90=640 => 2W= 640-90= 550
2W= 550 => W= 550/2= 275

Knowing that W=275, we will then get that L=365 (from the formula L=W+90)

L = length
W = width

L = 90 + W
2L + 2W = 1280

divide 2nd equation by 2 to get:
L + W = 640
substitute eq 2 into eq 1:
(90 + W) + W = 640
2W = 550
W = 275 miles
L = 365 miles
