I just recently purchased a used 1997 Kawasaki KLX300R. This is my first bike so im not too familiar with it. When riding this bike it seems to heat up fairly quickly and I can feel the heat radiating upwards towards my crotch. Since there is no thermostat(or maybe I just can't find it) I am unable to confirm if it is overheating or if this is just normal operating temperature. I was told from the previous owner that several racing parts were fitted such as a Mikuni carb and an FMF Q arrestor. What are some of the symptoms I should be looking for that would indicate that my bike is starting to overheat?

The heat you feel is normal. They will radiat heat normally. Make sure the coolant is full. I am almost sure that this bike is equipped with a temp overheat light. May want to check with Kawasaki.

The engine has (or at least did have) a thermostat. Heat on the rider is pretty common on both air and water cooled bikes since the radiator or engine is located below and ahead of the rider. When moving, the heat travels backwards and as you know, heat goes up. I've had plenty of hot crotches over the years but it's had nothing to do with my sex appeal.

Wouldn't it be easier to just wear jeans with better crotch insulation?
