I ,am 15 and there is gonna be a talent show at my school...I am in a debate over which song to sing...I personally like tanya tucker lizzie and the rainman....i have been told i even sound like tanya tucker...my mom says i sing this b/c it's most likely to win...my stepmom on the hand says it is to old and i need to sing a taylor swift song...b/c people wanna hear me sing a that doesnt sound like somebody else, she says i sound to much like tanya tucker and that isnt what people want. So I need some other opinions. I thought that song choice can also show individuality...yes that song is old but that doesnt mean i dont sing it best out of my choices

Do whichever one that you like and works best for your vocal range. But if it is for a talent show at school you might go with something a little more popular like taylor swift. Good Luck!

I think you should sing what you are most comfortable with. If you are comfortable with your presentation of Tanya Tucker's song then that would be a good choice. You are trying to showcase your vocal ability, not whether the song is popular. The Taylor Swift song may be more well known, but that can also work against you as people may be comparing you with her more so than Tanya. I personally think since you say you sing it best, that is what you should sing.

In a talent show don't ever sang your favorite song, you may tend to think you sing it better than you really do, because you really like the song. Practice singing a song about 50 times the same song over and over, if you do this you will find your own voice and if you do this all the time you will find your real voice and will be able to find it every time you sing a song. I had favorite songs, and on practice night the manager would make me sang Rudolf the red nose reindeer so I could find my voice! You might try that! Learn to sang in your throat and not in your mouth, and not with your tounge, and sang from the bottom of your lungs not in your mouth! Good Luck!
