I thought it was awesome the first couple times I heard it. But last time I listened to it I realized it's about child abuse? There's a line that says something like, "I'll give you candy if you just tell daddy you fell off the swings." Crazy stuff. What do you think?

Sorry to say, but what the heck took you so long to figure that out?...LOL. Now if you listen to the lyrics better, you'll realize what she means is that children who are abused live in hell. She calls it Hell Is For Children because abused children live in a hellish environment.

Yes, it's about child abuse. It was intended to bring light to the issue - not to promote child abuse.

And, it is an awesome song. It's one of those that I can't sing all the way through without tears welling up in my eyes.

You're right. It is about child abuse. I loved the song in high school, but never really thought about until I was older....talk about an eye-opener!

There was similar talk back when the song first came out. We had this conversation 26 years ago.

The song came out in 1981.

How could not realize the first time?
Anyway, I find it very depressing. I cant stand when something bad happens to a kid. I get too emotional.

It was about AWARENESS towards that. It actually had a bit of an effect when it first hit the airwaves.
