i want one that has the internet thing so you don't have to stick the wireless card in, it's built in. i'll be using it for school (college papers, research), myspace, yahoo answers, other internet pleasures. i also like to put my music on there (and i have a lot of that), and i shoot movies and music videos with my friends so I'll be editing it on this computer. i need a lot of internal memory because the one i have now (a SUPER old one of my dad's) is down to 1% memory left and i have barely anything on there. not a very big gamer, hearts and pinball just about does it for me, and i don't like MAC computers. also i need one that comes with the firewall cable port and a dvd player and cd burner. if there is a computer out there like that, can you give me the link? (or just tell me where i can find it). i have about $50 dollars now and i am making approx. $65 a week (give or take a few, some weeks it's $20, others it's $100). so i still have a ways to go, but thanks for all your help.

oh and if you could keep it under $1000, that would be great too.

In your case I would suggest a Dell Computer they are low cost and perform the tasks you want well. You could also go with a model from HP or Toshiba. But the best advice I can offer is to go on those companies website and have a look at all of the models that meet your price range and then compare the ratings and reviews on a site like C-Net or PC World. I am partial to Dell machines because of the customer service. And keep in mind that you can buy from the Small Business section of the website from any of the companies I listed, I only say that because a lot of the times it is almost the same machine (inside the case) as the units they sell to home users.

SOOOOOOO many possibilities. Foreign made comps are better for what you're looking for; Sony or Compaq. 1000 bucks doesnt limit you too much, but its good to know what you want to spend. It really all depends on your 'flavor' of laptop. Most all come with wireless wifi and a decent graphics card, as well as atleast 80 GB SATA hardrive and 1GB of memory. With that said, all you need to look for is a good processor. Pentium mobile, Centrino, Athlon 64 mobile, and sometimes Core and Core 2 models are under 1000 dollars. Speeds above 2.4 Ghz (dual core is suggested, but only a luxury) should do just fine. Assuming you are still in high school, this laptop will last you through a good 4 year college, as long as you don't spill Ramen on it.

If you had the cash right now, I would tell you order a Dell 1420. Spec it out right and the price would still be within your budget.

But seeing at best you are 14 weeks away from having your total budget, I would hold out asking....Have to keep in mind that Christmas isn't that far off and if you're the giving type....there goes your budget.

You can keep an eye on the outlet section of Dell for a notebook up to your standards....it 'can' save you a little.

I always recommend Mac computers for people who know little about computers. I have a Dell and a Mac. Of course, neither are laptop computers. But, I know from personal experience that the Mac is more self explanatory than the Dell. My son enrolled in Insight School of WA and the school sent him an hp laptop computer running Windows XP. In less than a week, the system failed and had to be restored. Whatever you decide, make sure you have access to good tech support. During the first year after I had the Dell, I had to call tech support because of system failure. But, the tech person was in India and I had a hard time understanding her with her heavy accent. So, she spelled everything letter by letter. For example: A as in Alpha, D as in David, D as in David. This was done so as not to confuse the words she was saying with sound alike words. Over the phone, "add" can sound a lot like "bad". Of course, this is just an example.

I think I would advice you that you ask your parents for advice. Buying a computer now a days in the fast world of technology can be very challenging.
I would recommend, that you write down what you would like your computer to do for you. Remember, computer's out date quite fast.
If you want to hang on to your computer until you are trhough with college you want one that has a tremendious amount of HD space. Now a days computer come with 100mb of Hard Drives. They also have dual hard drives. If you store music on them it will freeze up a lot of space.
So better to put your music on a portable thumbdrive. That's what I have done.
I think Dell's are great computers. I do not like Toshiba. I had one and it had flaws over flaws. Would not recommend it.
You can call Dell, and ask a customer service representative. Good luck. You got quite way's to go...

Yeah, good luck with that. You're better off with a Mac, but you won't listen, you'd rather remain a Flintstoner.
