I am sitting next to a glorified computer technician...
He states that your system cache or memory has likely commiteed hari-kiri. This problem is usually caused by to much information being transferred at one time causing a "gridlock". This can be caused by Windows and/or other "Start-Up" (the programs that boot-up with/as part of your Autoexc) programs trying to use the same memory sectors simultaneously.
Take it in for repairs/replacement.
A complete wipe/reformat and replacement from scratch can fix it IF your system can handle the OS.
But, like I said...take it in for repairs/replacement. The "repairs" should *not* cost you anything, as your computer should still be under warranty.

Check your RAM as other users have suggested. You probably will have to return the laptop for another one. When you receive your replacement, ask for Windows XP. Don't get Vista!
As with any Microsoft product, there are major major problems with their software. It takes a year or two before they make the patches that'll enable their stuff to work properly. So stick with XP until they work out the bugs in Vista. Then upgrade to Vista. HP's are good computers, we use them all the time in my company. And the only ones we have problems with are the ones that run Vista.
Good Luck. Definitely get to the store, while it's still under the 30 day in store warranty. You can also call HP, I believe they have a warranty also. But I strongly recomment you don't get Vista just yet. Give it a year or so.

Heat problems maybe? try running it with the side of the case off and a fan sucking air out of it. If it still freezes.. might not be heat. You could have bad RAM or something. It could be a few things I guess.
EDIT: oh yeah, warranties. My suggestion might void that. Take er back lol

The only way to really fix that problem is throw it out the window. It's not Visa it the cheap computer your running.
But may try your system restore disk to fix the problem kid.
That's the only way if your computer keeps freezin up.
If you installed and thing on the computer sense you bought it try removing the program from the comtrol Panel under System Remove. If all fails return it back to it owner where you got it.

Call HP! Their support group is pretty good. If you play around with it too much, it may void the warranty.

Return it since it's new. New computers shouldn't come with problems. Could be a dud.
