Yes they are. They run cooler than an incandescent bulb and draw less amps. So they are actually safer than the old bulbs.

Yes they are, light fixtures have changed very little over the years, the changes have been more cosmetic. Actually the CFL bulb is probably safer than the ordinary bulb because they pull way less electricity through your wiring.

I live in an older home , I only received one which blew out the second time I turned on the light switch . I had already been using them throughout my home though without difficulties so I think they are fine I just stumbled across a bad bulb .

The only issue you might have in using them is in an "enclosed" light fixture. The ballast (that ceramic bottom on the bulb) can be sensitive to heat build-up, so things like recessed lights or once totally enclosed in small glass fixtures can cause them to burn out. Other than that, they are great.

yes they take a lower wattage so they are safer then the old type bulbs
