What do you gain/lose between these bikes? Why the increase in price between them? I take weekly 100-200 miles weekend rides often with a passenger and commute on country roads during the week. Which would be the best bike for these purposes?

The primary differences between the america and the speedmaster are the handle bars, seat, and black out engine versus chrome on the america. the bonnieville edition is a more nostalgic rendition , although the motors are all the same size. i recently rode the america and it seems a fine bike. if you plan to carry a passenger, the america's seat is the best of the 3 bikes, and you can remove the passenger pillion for a cleaner look when you ride single.. the handle bars on the speedmaster are more of a drag style bar and will set you a little more forward in the seat. since the america is the cheapest price of the 3, i would suggest buying it and having the handlebars changed, if you prefer the smaller drag style bars. All the reviews i have read on these three bikes say they are fantastic on the twisties, i.e. backroads.

Triumph America Vs Speedmaster

You are correct, the bike is called a Bonneville America. I have an 06 I bought new. After owning it for a while, I sold BOTH my Harley's. I love the Triumph more than any other bike I have ever owned (I have been riding for 42 years). And the added bonus is that Harley riders love a Triumph too! Hold your head UP at any rally anywhere! The bike is totally built by HAND, in Hinkley, England. Remember, Triumph's have been built since 1883. There bullet-proof. The BEST deal out there.

The Speedmaster and America are basically the same bike except for paint IE black engine or chrome. Both of those bikes are set up in traditional cruiser sit up and beg riding position (some people like it, but, I don't think its good for the long distance). I think you'll find the standard Bonnevile more comfortable and better handling if you like riding at any speed through twisty roads. Personally, I own a standard Bonneville and find that it is a great all around bike.

Wow, where to begin. To actually see that I actually do have the bike you can go to www.myspace.com/johnnythunder 12. I own the Speedmaster. I have over 15,000 miles on it and I will not trade it for anything. I ripped off the speedo and odo and the tach and there is alot more to it. I only put them on to relocate but I will rip them off shortly...it helps my warranty. Buying a Triumph has it's advantages. It's the best. Very easy start, but she hates the cold..that's why I am in sunny Florida. By the way, every dealer that I have been to has been worthwile. I lived in Tennessee and I just moved HERE in Florida two days ago. The ride was nice and it is 12 hours long. First, with the Speedmaster, you have more power than the basic Bonnie or the America, but remember, they're all three in the Bonnie family. The only exception is the Bonnie T100 or the Thruxton which is faster but you can't haul jack with either of those. Second, I use to race Honda 550s so I like to race and I have taken the 883 Harley, Norton 750, and a few other bikes in the 700 to 800 line and knocked the shine off of them and I just have the 790cc model. Mine is an 04'. They have a little more power now. Third, the european model has the riding advantage. I ride solo and I have to thank the semetry of the layout of the pipes. There is one on each side, so I pop out the rear pegs and when I ride long distance, I will switch feet positions from hanging my heels over the front pegs to helping my back to throwing my feet backwards over the rear pegs. I utilize this tremendously. This position brings your body in an upright postion for your back or you can lean foward with your feet backward and ride it cafe style and TON UP! Fourth, this baby is smooth. It doesn't vibrate. 80-90 mph is my favorite because when I am about to TON UP, I can feel the world pass nicely. I have saddle bags, a rear sissy-pillion, and luggage rack so traveling is a sinch. You would think with all of that stuff that it would look weird like most Harley's or other cruisers do but it is not. I am very satisfied with the strip down or bolt on travels. Now, as far as a passenger goes, you have the gunfighter seat. Your passenger may want a break every once in awhile. That depends on the passenger. Amy left Tennessee with me to Daytona, and fell asleep. That scared me. She is short and light and I almost forgot she was back there. So, yes, it seems comfortable enough for me and the passenger for long trips. You really have to experience it yourself and not just by this RIDER"S experience but I have a good history with Triumph Speedmaster. I love speed, traveling, looking good and everything a bike can give you. Thsi would be my suggestion for that bike you are looking for unless you like bigger bikes and I would suggest the Rocket 3. I weigh 155 lbs and stand at 5'10. Go to www.myspace.com/johnnythunder 12 to see "Norma Jean" the Speedmaster on her way to Florida. Good Luck!!!

I had a Harley for my last bike and now my brother has it. I used to ride on dirt trails with it for fun, but, had to watch my clearance at times.
It want either a Triumph or Royal Enfield for my next bike. The Bullet 500 ES looks cool and have a good fender clearance on back.

BUT, from my experience with my Harley I will put some Street/Trail Tires on it for Gravel Roads and the occasional dirt trail. :-)
