People ask where Chelsea is, or Fred Thompson having to defend his wife. When Al Gore's son got arrested, people called him a bad father. Or Bush and the twins.
Why do people attack someone's family?? That is crossing the line.BIG TIME.
Agree, disagree?

univee: What Al Gore's adult son does, or Fred Thompson's wife age have nothing to do with their politics.
You can critique a politician's behavior, but I think families should be left out of it.

It is the cheapest of a cheap shot to use someone's personal life as a harpoon for political gain. Since watergate, the media is so sanctimonious it is unbelievable, and, the Republican attack on Clinton's sex life, really, has opened the floodgates, unfortunately.

I do not think that they are attacking th family as much as attacking the individual.
The feeling that they want the public to have is "Here is this important person who wants to govern us and he can't even control his children",
I don't think that that reason makes sense bu it is said behind the scenes. Couple that with the idea that many want to know about the private lives of important people.

As long as family members of politicians are not used in the particular campaign of that politician they should be off limits. Once a politician brings them into the campaign, either as a photo op, or in direct campaigning, then all bets are off.

What goes around comes around.
If politicians have the chutzpah to run on Family Values, then the public has the right to know what values exist in their families.
The line was crossed by politicians.
