Marketing..........plain and simple
Please let's not try to make the Ap State win into more than it was........was it huge? YES.....does that mean they should just go off and join the Big 10 or some other BCS conference?? Heck no........yeah it was historic but it shouldnt surprised most insiders because the Wolverines have always struggled with spread offenses.......should they still have won??? based on talent, heck ya, but that one win isnt going to change the landscape of college football........think about it, if they're not going to let constant opposition of the BSC errrr, I mean BCS deter them then this one loss certainly isnt going to change much either
the "usual suspects" are still the "usual suspects" for a reason........MONEY.....as long as ppl are still interested in those schools, for good or bad, they will continue to be pushed to the forefront......it helps when you're winning alot like USC has been the past couple of yrs and being in or close to Hollywood doesnt hurt either so of course they "hyped" up.......as for the SEC programs, well if Auburn loses this weekend to South Florida (huge possibility), then you'll have your share of detractors as soon as the clock reaches triple 0's..........

Did not know they were!
You must be in your early 20's
SEC Power is media hype campaign. You folks in the SEC have huge media contengents that travel with the teams, hyping non-existant accollades on the teams they are promoting. 10 years ago the SEC was not on the national mind set......that is until Katrina, when the south garnered all the sympathy.
Look up your history, with the exception of Alabama, SEC teams rarely played outside thier conference and kept switching teams and sub conferences.....as often as some people change socks. Not because they were a better conference, but because they were too damn cheap. You are correct is pointing out SEC consistency.......above average. Who was the biggest promoter of that abortion called the "BCS"..... the SEC.....who has been the biggest "Whinner" (whaaaa....whaaaaa, whaaaa) the SEC.
Talk is Cheap just like in 2003 and all prior years. SEC will fall flat.

Why are you posting this question like many other morons, asking why is USC so "overrated?". I think you should ask the Medias that question, the AP poll voters and the coaches who's vote in the Coaches Poll. Well, USC is just a team that perform on Saturday and the Pollsters vote on Monday morning, if anything it's the pollsters that vote," is overrated". But i see where you come from, you and alot of other team overzealous fans. Hey, I'm a USC and PAC 10 fan, am not gonna stand here and let you do the bashing. But winning breed jealousy, so USC must be doing alot of winning for you and alot of other peoples that bash them. Fight On!

Well, I am an SEC fan but you are a little biased here. I think what you are trying to say is that the media should drop the hype and polls should not come out until the fifth game of the season. At that time everyone will have a better understanding of who has a good team and the wannabees.

You will find that California is a HUGE media market, and USC is a school that puts many people into the Media industry. Watching broadcasts of sportscenter and ESPN there are times that I hear the commentators speaking highly of USC because it is their alma matter. These are the same individuals who are given a vote in the USA polls.

Actually i think USC deserves their rank this year. This is the first year i don't think they are way overated. I don't like USC, but they do have a good team this year.
I think LSU would beat them thou, but we had some question marks to start the season. With LSU's schedule it will be tough to get to the sugar bowl this year.

Because they have this guy who runs naked out on the field screaming "Go USC! FIGHT ON! EAT THOSE CORN DOGS!"
I think there's gonna be some new teams emerging this year that haven't in the past.

"re-evaluate the quality of non-SEC programs" well maybe they should be excluded if they win ALL of their bowl games this year. Like that one conference that did it last year. Who was it..... hummm?
