The term refers to the skin color of East Asians, and the belief that the mass immigration of Asians threatened white wages and standards of living.

Many sources credit Kaiser Wilhelm II with coining the phrase "Yellow Peril" (in German, "gelbe Gefahr") in September 1895.

In 1898, British writer M. P. Shiel published a short story serial titled The Yellow Danger. Shiel took advantage of the murder of two German missionaries in Kiau-Tschou 1897 to spread his anti-Chinese feelings.

the term yellow was derived from the saying, "Not a China Man's Chance". It was saying that the Asian's jobs on the railroads were so scary that they'd be sure to be afraid or "yellow".

The Pacific Railroad in the US was completed by many Chinese workers. They often had the most dangerous jobs including blasting. Therefore, it was said that they were scared and didn't have a chance.

Yellow also means scared. Humans do take on a yellowish tent when they are frightened because the blood leaves the outer areas of the body and moves to the inner most areas of the body. This is also why you feel a chill when you're scared.

I don't know why.

White people aren't white and black people aren't black.

Most asians or people who's skin is not black or white (but "yellow") describe their skin color as olive, and olive's nearest regular color is yellow so that's my guess.

Remember Asia is huge.
Some from countries like Japan are really pale but Thailand etc it gets darker. I find their skin has more of a golden brown colour than say, African Americans (I don't know if that's the right term but you know what I mean)

Again maybe this is where the yellow part comes from.

(edit: I just noticed I repeated what the posters above me said about black+white, but I didn't see that when I posted)

Hi and good morning....Why does society or certain individuals have to place 'color' on the human race in general. Why are the African Americans or the Africans called 'Black'? I don't see this color. I see a human being of a different culture or race. Like the Asians. Society and certain individuals call these people 'yellow' why? Again, I don't see this color. They may look different in their physical appearance but maybe to them we look funny and different because we aren't Asian. Society and our own Government has placed us humans in categories like a box of crayons and I'm against this totally. I'm not the color 'white' I'm more light beige than anything...lol...paper is white, a cotton ball is white. Black is the color of the night sky or asphalt or a tire not the color of the race of people that were born in Africa or African Americans. "Yellow' is the color of the sun or a lemon or a daisy not a color of the Asian race. And what about our North American Indians? They are always called 'red' skins. NOT! They are not red...Red is the color of a stop sign or a stop light. Society and certain individuals and groups have placed us all in categories that represents the crayons in a box and not by our race or culture. This is my opinion. Have a wonderful day!

Well, Chinese usually tend to have a more yellowy skin. So since the population of chinese is the biggest, they say asians have yellow skin although it isnt technically correct because some asians have for example tanned skin.

You can't really see it with Asian-Americans. People from China and Hong Kong have a very distinctive skin color that is not EXACTLY yellow, but it kind of resembles it.

I'm always jealous of my Asian friends' golden tan that they get in the summer. It's just a different shade of brown/ tan/ flesh color than what other ethnic groups have. And I think it's beautiful.

They aren't. And white people are pink, and blacks are a chocolate color. And when you turn any of them inside out, it's the same red...

The differences between humans get simplified because people are in love with simplification. They don't want to think deeply about anything.

I think it just refers to the undertones in the skin...because I don't see a lot of green in an olive complexion either...or red in a native complexion.
