Hi everyone,

I am greatly thinking about moving to Texas within a year or so. Can you guys help me out with giving me some ideas on some great cities to live in? I can afford rent under $800 and I prefer a gated community. I am single, young, fashionable, and a finance professional. I like diversity and great atmosphere. Any suggestions?

I looked up on craigslist for places in my optimal price range. Can you tell me which areas listed here are good places to live? These are places in Austin:

Austin is great but I don't think you'll find housing in your range. Unfortunately there is a reason that people move to great cities to live and that's the reason that property owner charge more for rent. You might try New Braunfels. It is a bit smaller than Austin but close enough to drive back and forth. Not quite as diverse though.

Austin is great. Very progressive, good music scene, university town, lots to do in the area. Very young and hip. Centrally located. Cost of living will be highest here, but cheaper than the east or west coasts, lol.

Corpus Christi is nice if you like coastal areas. Small city, big military presence. Cost of living is reasonable but not a bastion of culture.

San Antonio is not bad. Very large city, very hot in summer, lots of historical areas. Military bases and several universities. SA has attitude (but maybe that's just because its my old stomping grounds, lol). cost of living should be somewhere between Corpus and Austin.

DFW...I don't like Dallas, but a lot of people do.

Avoid El Paso and Houston..which are, imo, the two armpits of Texas.

East Texas can be a little backward.
West Texas...there is absolutely nothing there except oil and cows, lol.

My brother in-law love Texas! He and finance live in Corpus Christi. The living is very cheap down there and the climate is great as well. Not as hot as you may think because its not far off the Gulf Of Mexico. He and his wife rented a 2 bedroom apt. for I believe 600 a month. It was in a higher end community I would say. If you have anymore questions feel free to contact me.

my husband loves texas and would move there in a heartbeat if i would say yes. honestly for $800 a month you're not going to be living in a gated community in dallas for sure. it's just waaaay more expensive than that but you could check out longview. it's east of texas and my husband lived there and loved it. it has really grown a lot in the past few years. austin is also really great if you like to be arty and stuff. they have a great music scene there.
good luck!!

i think of that could desire to rely on the place the ideal kin member(s) has or have jobs. Texas is extensive, so great which you would be able to desire to not holiday from say Houston to Dallas on an well-known basis as that could desire to be a 6 hour holiday one way. Given the financial equipment, moving with a job lined up is inquiring for a undesirable journey. in reality, there are great places in or around very very nearly each and every city yet site visitors in maximum ability moving on the brink of paintings is very very nearly a could desire to.

Orange TX is great. Mostly because it is close to Louisiana.
