I am flying into San Jose and driving to Sonoma on Sunday. I am looking for some things to do on the way up there? I was just in San Francisco in July for my first time so I want to see something else. I live in Pennsylvania and it will be my second time in the area. Thanks.

I think driving across the Golden Gate Bridge will be the highlight of the drive. Between San Jose and San Francisco there isn't much to get excited about

Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, and spend some time exploring Marin. Sausalito is a charming town located right on the water, walk around and explore the art galleries and shops.

Another highly recommended stop is Muir Woods, to see the majestic redwood trees (300' tall!). There's a ~1-mile trail loop that takes you around the main grove, or you can go on a longer hike if you're so inclined. Getting to Muir Woods is about a 15-minute drive from 101.

A great place to have lunch on the water (and an amazing view of San Francisco and the Bay) is Sam's in Tiburon. People sit out on the deck for hours, watching the sailboats come and go in the harbor:

From San Jose, drive the 101 North until you can access the 280 North (not far). The 280 North ( judged as one of the worlds "best" freeways) will take you past Crystal Springs, where SF stores it's better than bottled drinking water (from Hetch-Hetchy near Yosemite) in beautiful wooded resevoir areas. Follow 280 North freeway signs to enter SF on the GG Bridge/19th ave exits-do not get on the 101 North thru downtown SF. Take 19th ave/Park Presidio North thru SF, onto the GG Bridge. Stay on the 101 North thru Marin County to Petaluma. At Petaluma you can access Adobe Road (check your Map). Adobe road will lead you to Sonoma, Napa, all of wine country. Most of your drive using this route will be beautiful, with Ocean views and story-book country roads of trees, dairys,
vineyards and horses, valleys and hills.
