No, Beethoven never had a son that we know of. His life has been picked apart by so many biographers and researchers that it would be odd indeed if something like that was never picked up.

To Mr. Charlie Brown -- the worst way to get at historical facts is through Hollywood. "Immortal Beloved", although quite entertaining, is, as you said, conjecture -- and lots of it. It is a disservice to the asker to use movies as a source of information when answering these questions, in my humble opinion. Unless, of course that movie happens to be a bona fide documentary, which "Immortal Beloved" most certainly is not.

This question has been asked before. The simple answer is no. There has been some suggestion that his nephew Karl was his son, but there is really no evidence to make such an assertion. The movie "Immortal Beloved" intimated such a posibility, but that is purely poetic license of the screenplay writer. The movie was not intended to be a documentary (any more than say Amadeus was). This issue is covered fairly well in Maynard Solomon's biography of Beethoven.

According to what I've read about Beethoven, he never had any kids. There were nephews, though. The last Beethoven died during World War I. He was in the German army.

There's a movie called "Eternal Beloved" based on letters between Beethoven and a lover - the movie speculates on who the lover was and perhaps a son? It's a good movie, stars Gary Oldman as Beethoven, he's excellent. Worth a look.

Its doubtful. The closest family he had was a nephew Carl.

Carl was a creep who sold off Beethoven's belongings at auction to raise money to pay his gambling debts.

Interestingly, Carl immigrated to the US where we worked for the Union Pacific railroad.

NO, however, Beethoven did adopt his nephew, who was mentally unstable, perhaps due to Beethoven's parenting.
