I have a 2003 Jaguar X-Type. The other day when i was turning it off the key broke off in the ignition, I know, I should have a spare, but I don't.
In order to get it to the dealer, which the closest jag dealer is 2 hours away I would have to tow it on a flat bed, buy a key, and pay to have it programmed. This might cost $1500 or more.
I am pretty handy and was able to rig the key with a piece of metal tubing to get it to turn in the ignition, but not to start.
The key is not a normal key either. It is on a switchblade remote. The key itself is not typical either, it is cylindrical, not flat.
I am going through a separation and at the moment both me and my wife are unemployed. I honestly cannot afford to pay $1500 to get this fixed.
Is there a way to program this myself? Is there a way to rig this to at least get it to the dealer without towing? Is there a way to turn off the anti-theft?
I am really in a serious bind with this. PLEASE HELP

Often a good locksmith can fix the problem for about $100-200. Much cheaper than getting the car towed to the dealership.

Not familiar with Jag ignitions but if you hold the transponder close to the ignition and you're able to turn it, why won't it start like normal. Best bet would be to get a locksmith or local shop to bypass the anti-theft somehow. Or beg and pay the dealer to send a mechanic to you, if possible, with a new key and reprogram the remote. It is a Jag...should have superior customer service. At least that's what I would do in the situation---for that kind of money, I'd buy him a steak dinner and a bonus tip.
