When is the best time to visit chicago & where should I stay?

I'd say summer. That's when all of the street fairs and city festivals are going on. Granted it could be hot, but you can always hit the lakefront, chill on the beach, sit in an outdoor cafe and people watch, etc. Chicago starts getting kinda gray and dreary in the fall. In fact it just hit September and i'm looking out the window now at a gray, rainy sky. Spring is OK, but not as much cool outdoor stuff going on. Try the summer months (May-August) and if you can afford it, stay downtown or along Lake Shore Drive.

I would have to say in July because there is so much activity happening everywhere..theres the Taste of Chicago and other great festivals....Stay at a hotel on Michigan Ave. Great views!

I would say the best time to visit is during the summer time and if your going to stay at a hotel I suggest The Drake, or The Intercontinental, or Marriot, or even Embassy Suites! :]]

The best time NOT to come is January. Anytime other than winter is great.

Personally, if you can, try and find out what the hotels consider off season. You will get your best values on hotels and travel, just like everywhere else.

try the embassy suite as your hotel. i highly recommend it!

and it depends on what you want to go do there.
there are many different events going on during different parts of the year.
the taste of chicago brings LOTS of people down, and Navy Pier is a big thing too! :)
