Technically, it is not illegal to "hit on" someone per se unless it amounts to constant harrassment. Whether or not charges are filed is left to the discretion of the offended party.
However, it is still illegal to solicit sexual behavior in public venues and it is also illegal to exchange such "services" for money ANYwhere.

It is illegal to solicit sex for money, and to have sex in a public place. It seems fairly obvious to me that the former is what Craig is being prosecuted for and had it not been a cop, the latter is what he would have done. It is not completely clear at this point that Craig or the cop made any mention of money, but for some reason, I keep hearing this $20 figure thrown around when people talk about this. Where did that come from? So, to answer your question, asking for sex anywhere is not necessarily illegal, unless it is done in a lewd or harassing fashion or unless money changing hands is part of the request.

If it were possible to close down places that permitted hooking up it would happen .
Dogs ,Cats , Birds ,and monkey's in cages can copulate in direct view of people without it being a crime .
I bet if people started mating dogs in public at parks a law would be passed banning owners from this practice .
Lets find out by doing this .
Instead of dog fighting we have dog f--king in public .
years ago people copulated all over the planet . The only reason we have houses with doors is so we are not interrupted while having intercourse .
I have been to a few parties and have actually had other people want to join me in the act of having intercourse only to say wait your turn and if she wants after I am finished you can go next .
This is why women while enjoying sex also place great importance with cuddling and sharing after intimate moments because in years past a fertile woman might have had sex with several men in the tribe to insure that she would provide offspring .
Todays woman want a single mate for life .
Thats why we have families with two smart kids and a dumb one .

1. Craig is MARRIED.
2. Craig is a public, political figure and he has to abide by a code of conduct that an average joe doesn't have to abide by.
3. Craig frequently spoke against same sex benefits yet turns out to be gay himself. That makes him a HUGE hypocrite.
4. Last but not least, that nut job pleaded guilty two months after the incident. He had plenty of time to get his defenses together if he really thought that he was wrongly arrested.
My point in all of this, it really doesn't matter where it is legal and where it isn't. His political status has catapulted an otherwise PRIVATE issue into the spotlight for SOOO many reasons.

There seems to be a bit of confusion here about what happens when the tap dance ends. They do not go into the night and rent a room. They stay in the stalls. If you walk in you and your son run the risk of getting an education you weren't prepared for.
If a guy and gal hook up in the lavatory, its just as illegal, the charge isn't homosexual hook-up, its lewd behavior. Craig plead down to a charge of disorderly conduct. Its pretty common to plead guilty to a lesser charge, especially if you are in the closet, I mean, you could always say you got a bit rowdy at a bar, and no one would look it up, unless you were a US Senator.

Who cares. The good senator from Idaho is a liar and a dork. I think people were complaining too much about perverts having sex in the bathroom stalls. I wouldn't want to be takin' a dump and have two gay guys pounding each other in the next stall. The airport had to do something about it. Heck, little kids use the bathrooms too.

I know that it is illegal to even whistle at girls or boys in high schools in Phoenix... even if you're a student! Other than that, I didn't think it was illegal to suggest sex anywhere, the last I checked, sex was legal with those of legal age. Oh well, Craig plead guilty, too late for arguments.

There is a difference between hitting on someone and soliciting sex. In some states, asking a stranger for sex in any public place is considered solicitation. Suggesting that one would pay for sex, or charging for sex is definitely illegal in all states.

There was no money exchanged..or even talk of money being exchanged...no one even suggested having sex actually IN the bathroom (although I believe that was the intention)...the police officer played along, so it wasn't "unwanted advances"..as disgusting and immoral as I find the entire thing I can't figure out what law was broken...seems like the police officer jumped the gun on the arrest...he should have waited and let Craig voice his intention on audio tape.

One, any unwanted sexual advances can be defined as lewd molestation and is against the law.
Two, homosexuality is perverted and the guy would be Lucky as hell if I called the cops instead of breaking bones and rupturing internal organs.
