I've been writing poetry every since fifth grade, Mr.Tomis Richardson was my teacher, he was the first tallest man I've ever seen he taught me everything I know now, but now I'm in the 10th grade and I haven't been able to write a thing since 9th. Most of my pomes were mostly about love or depression but now that I'm happy, I cant write any more, I use to write to get rid of my pain, but every since I've been with Jeremy (my boyfriend for seven months now) my world has changed, I'm not saying that I want to be sad, I just want to write agian.
If you want to read some of my poetry just go to www.poetry.com, type in Diamond Grant, and look for the pome lost love, when you find it you'll see other poems that I have written, who ever gives me the best adivice with get five points.

I have also written poems and i also used to draw. And it is EXACTLY as you describe it. It is the feelings of sadness, loneliness, nostalgia, melancholy that seems to be the engine behind them. I have also faced your problem. Since I feel more or lees happy, even when I really want to write / draw, I seem to lack inspiration. It used to be that I just sat down at my desk in late hours of the night and verses just came to me... Well there is one advice i can give you, but I cannot say if it will work for you as well. Try to detach yourself from the world for a short time (this means your boyfriend as well) and look at it threw different eyes. Try to see yourself as an observer, not as part of the world (this can be hard when you have someone you love by your side, so maybe try this when you are alone) and think about what impressions this world makes on you. Try to see what people love, what they strive for, what they would be ready to die for, why there is hate in the world (and so on...) and lets you pen write down what you feel. (i really like Lost Love because when i read it I can feel things) But remember poems may also be written without rimes. Just find the best way in which you can express this, weather it is in rimes or not. I like to believe "the only limit to an imaginative mind is the infinite..." - good luck exploring it. I know you will find ways to create again. :)

I too, started writing poetry in fifth grade, no teacher involved with my inspirations to write, just me, myself and I. I didn't lose inspiration until I enlisted in the service and met a man of my nightmares. I did get him out of my life, but lost quite a bit of my inspiration in the process. It has been coming back, a long time in coming back tho. I am not prone to advice, but your inspiration is still there waiting to awaken.

As a poet myself, I have found four things that work for me to bring me back to the center of my soul: meditation; mindfulness (i.e. fine-tuning my senses, keeping my eyes, ears, heart, and mind open as I go about my life); this great book called Poetic Medicine, by John Fox, which has all these exercises and poems that encourage me to go in deep and express what I really think and feel; and writing my own poetry in response to poems or songs I read or hear that touch my heart.

So change your focus. Instead of writing to alleviate your pain, write to express your joy.
Not a difficult thing to do, just one that requires new thinking. Good luck.

Must be focussing too much on Jeremy! Try to keep away for a few weeks and see if it helps you regain your creativity.
Shhhh. don't tell him about this piece of advice, he may curse or roast me alive!!
