Get as much rest as you need to feel well. However, bed rest is not neccessary unless the doctor tells you it is needed. Usually this is for bleeding, high blood pressure, or premature labor(before 37 weeks) that can cause the baby to be born prematurely. Sometimes this can happen early in a pregnancy and sometimes late. Bed rest is definately not fun but sometimes it is what the baby needs.

Not everyone has to be on bed rest during pregnancy. I might have to be put on bed rest next time I get pregnant after about 18 weeks due to incompetent cervix because I lost a baby girl at 21 weeks last Summer. Women that have pre-eclampsia (Extremely high blood pressure), sometimes women that are diabetic (But not all).

They only reccomend total bed rest if you are experiancing a lot of problems with your pregnancy. and if you are putting yourself and baby at harm.
* very high blood pressure/pre-eclampsia
*bleeding etc
*premature labour (if they are trying to stop it)
otherwise it is fine to carry on as normal, just being a bit more carefull and taking it more easy!
Listen to your body - if you feel tired take a rest! and dont do anything too strenuous!

The above answer seems correct. I personally was active probably until one day before my baby was born.
I was very active I would work full time, go to college full time, and my son came on the perfect timing. I finished my finals and the next thing he was born.
