No. For one, if you have cold water fish indoors, you have to worry about keeping the water within their range, that is if you keep your room temp in the 70's. Many tropical fish are fine at those room temps.
A good coldwater fish that's often sold with tropicals is the White Cloud Mountain Minnow. Easy to care for, attractive, and active. They are a schooling fish, so should have at least 6, and a 10 gallon tank. A paradise fish would also do well in their tank.

Coldwater types like goldfish where you just put them in bowl or tank of tap water, they will soon get settled and need only to change water once a week. Tropical fish have to have warm water with aeration,a grit bed with and plants that needs to changed every so often. Algae will build up on the glass and will have to be scraped off. Yes tropicals are more harder to look after.

In my opinion, no, they are basically the same. You just need to keep an eye on the temperature and maybe get your water tested every now and again. As usual, you will need to do a 25% water change weekly or fortnightly (depending on the amount of fish) and de-chlorinate any water you are adding. The only new piece of equipment you will need to buy (if you already have a coldwater tank) is a heater, which are very cheap. Be careful which fish you buy because some dont mix, and also, with some species, only one of the same sex can be kept in one tank (e.g Male Saimese fighters)

I don't think so. I good aquarium heater will keep things just fine. Make sure you have at least 5 watts of heater per gallon. 10 gallon tank minimum 50 watt heater. I like 10 watts per gallon but 5 will do it. You will also have to get a pH test kit. Warmer water holds less oxygen than coldwater so you must filter and aerate well. If you are new to tropical fish go with a community tank which is a variety of peaceful fish. Find a really good fish shop and let them teach you. Have fun.

Certain Tropical fish are more needy but the only extra thing for tropical fish is a heater. you can easily get one for an OKish price from any aquatics shop or pet store. as far as food is concerned there is almost no difference. both cold water and tropical fish will eat flakes or pellets. just buy whichever is suited to whatever type of fish you choose. food is about the same price for either.

No, They`re much easier, they come in an infinately greater variety of species. You Can breed them, collect them, you can plant up the tank like a garden and, my favourite, you can keep specimen "pet" fish that you van train to "jump" for food etc. These become like members of the family and will live for years.
Try an oscar or an osphranemus gourami they are both great the latter will get very tame but also very big. Pacus are good. too
