First he sets every SEC passing record, but gets bashed for losing to Florida.
Then he loses the H-trophy to some overrated DB because of one game against OSU (who is the better player now?), under the BS theory that "defensive guys really need a shot to win the award to" -- where are all those votes for defensive players now? Not one visit to the ceremony since Woodson stole the award.
Then, it was "Ryan Leaf will be a better NFL QB." Oops.

Next it was "Brady is a better QB, just look at those rings!" Never mind that Manning has to score 30 points a game while Brady needs to put up 18. Peyton overcame that one last year anyway.

When will the respect come? How much does Peyton have to do before the detractors finally shut up? Has he finally done enough to win the respect he deserves, or will detractors concoct yet another reason shortchange him?

I hated Peyton in college but as somebody that studies the game of football I have never seen a qb single handedly handle an entire game by himself the way he does. I have grown to respect Peyton as the best qb in the league and when it is all said and done maybe the best qb to ever play the game.

I think he is respected though I have heard very few negative things about Peyton lately.

Ha Peyton Manning is the best quarterback in the game!! (i am a pats fan and brady is good but not that good) However he gets a hard time just like Marino because instead of taking less money so that his team can have all around support in there case a better defense he doesnt do this! He will continue to break records and be phenomenal and after winning the superbowl and getting MVP i think he got his props for once! Lets see if he can do it again what 41-10 over New Orleans!! (NO overrated some experts thought they were gtoing to be a SB team)! Everyone who bashes peyton etc.. just jealous that he doesnt play for there home team!!

After winning last year's Superbowl that did it for him. Especially in a comeback win against New England when at one point they were trailing 18 points. He is a lock for the HOF.
You mentioned the fiasco with the Heisman Trophy. When Manning did not win the award I lost all interest in the Heisman because it is a joke. There are about 10 standards used to judge an individual for the trophy or so they say. However, as long as you don't commit a felony you are eligible for the trophy and nothing counts except football media hype.
Case in point, just look at Reggie Bush. I get sick of hearing how good this guy is when he hasn't done that well in the pros. I would take Joseph Addai in a heartbeat over the infamous Reggie Bush. The media is little more than a cancer to football.

They are just jealous. Peyton has the respect from all who really know the game. He is the best football player in the world, no doubt! He has an arm like Favre and a brain like Staubach or Montana. When he gets rolling, he makes it look easier than anyone ever has. It looks like he's playing catch in the park with some friends instead of playing an NFL game. He has eyes in the back of his head like Larry Bird used to have. He always moves to the right spot away from pressure and gets rid of the ball at the right time. It's almost uncanny how he does it! He ranks right up there with Favre, Elway, Marino, Montana, Staubach, and Unitas as the greatest of all-time.

Their current ridiculous criticism is "Brady is better because 3 > 1" despite the fact than Manning is so obviously better that is almost comical to compare the two.

After that they go to "Brady never had any receivers" which is also ridiculous when you consider Marvin Harrison. He had 2 700 yard seasons before Manning arrived. With Manning he has never had less than 1100. Manning does more for his receivers than Brady does.

After that they will go to "Well Montana has 4 Super Bowls", then they will go to "Farvre has more MVP's and has started more consecutive games"

Well critics, you just make yourselves look more stupid every time you move the goal line back because Manning is clearly on track to be the best to ever play the game.

I hate to answer your question with another question, but are you a moron or do you just not own a TV that gets sports channels?

First of all, all Manning gets especially after winning the Superbowl is praise from the media and other analysts. People are saying if he wins one more Superbowl in his career that he will be the best ever, let me write that again for you, the best ever. To breath those words about anyone shows more than respect it shows admiration.

Another area where you are wrong is to down play Tom Brady. Myself, not a Tom Brady fan. There hasn't been another player that cool under pressure since Montana. Don't try and use Brady in your argument that makes you look even dumber than the question you asked.

Some people don't like Manning because of his over exposure, but anyone who knows anything about football respects his abilities.

Don't know where you've been recently, but he's already getting it. Winning the Super Bowl was pretty much the last hurdle. The guy's guaranteed to get into the Hall of Fame, and if he plays another 5-7 years, he'll obliterate the passing records, whether Marino or if the object of John Madden's unholy and insatiable lust, Brett, holds them.

I think he has the respect already. He won a championship and will probably win a couple more. Plus he will probably be known as the greatest Quarterback of all time when hes done playing.

I think he gets respect. He led the Colts to the Super Bowl win last year. I respect him and I think most NFL players who have played with him and against him also respect him. He deserves respect now.

Anyone who is objective is giving him the respect he deserves. He's a shoo in for the Hall of Fame even if he would retire tomorrow.
