I read a few of these answers and you guys scare me with your lack of understanding.
It is not about Iraq. It is not about Iraq. It is not about Iraq.
There is a group of people that want to bring Western Civilization to its knees. We are infidels and according to their religion, if we do not convert, we must be killed(read the Koran)
These people are not a defined nation-state that can be defeated like Germany and Japan were in WW II.
This is a cultural war and religious war that has no borders. Iraq just happens to be the place we are fighting right now.
I think they are here right now waiting......So as much as I hate it too, we just can not pack up and leave. I wish we could. Remember these people burned, destroyed and rioted when a newspaper printed a picture of Allah.....Think we could talk sense with them? I doubt it.
I share your frustration, anger and pain.
I have friends whose names are on "The Wall" for I was "in country" in 1969.
Just be realistic and not be Kool-Aid Drinkers

Define win . Iraq has no military resistance at all . Its government is cooperating with the United States in every possible way .
When we say jump they ask how high .
What more can we do to win bigger in Iraq .
Have them celebrate the day we liberated them from Saddam maybe .
We could declare a holiday for this occasion and the government would close down along with the banks and post office .
So what more do you want in order to declare a victory .
Only imposing the impossible task of converting the peoples religion and beliefs is keeping us there now .

No. we won't be able to...won't.... and have not gained. The conflict replaced into unwinnable from its outset. To win demands that the U. S. can extract (or administration) the source (oil) at a value that is greater inexpensive than the source. that could no longer be completed--for this reason we lose. does not be counted what number tactical or operational successes we've...that's the strategic consequence which would be sure victory. What human beings fail to contemplate is that the strategic failure in Iraq is/has fee us our place of hegemony and dominance in international geopolitics. Our failure in Iraq is top us from being the international superpower to a 0.33 international u . s . a ..

Wow..talk about a false choice! Win what? Getting out of the entire middle east and not importing any oil from there would be a huge win. We could move on to 21st century technology to keep the wheels on the road, stop killing people, stop destroying Iraqi infastructure, save the lives and limbs of our military forces, stop spending a billion borrowed dollars every single day and allow the middle east to reach its own equilibrium. We could even begin to actually deal with real 'terrorists' using the tried and true covert security and police methods that actually have a track record of beiing effective. To get the right answer, you have to ask the right question....you didn't!

Yes, we must win. Not only for us but for the civilian population of Iraq. We need to be seen as a country that stands by its commitments and if we cut and run we are not standing by our commitments. The Iraqi people need to feel safe and be safe in their country. That means Al Queda must be defeated. Winning is the only logical option.

You will have a lot of people waffle on this one.
I say Yes, I want the US to win and come home in honor.
And before anyone starts, I have a son who has been there, a niece who is going and several friends who are there.

Yes of course.
But it's not a battle WITH Iraq half as much as it is ABOUT Iraq - And how terrorists will do anything to try wiping out anyone who doesn't buckle to their demands.

Yes, and the mission of taking down Saddam's government and making sure there were no WMDs was accomplished when Bush donned his flight suit in May, 2003.

Do you want to "win" at all costs with no clear definition of winning? Yes or no.
Hey! Its easy to frame questions to make people look like a idiot, especially if you deal in absolutes like yes or no, good and evil, for us or against us.
