Yes and yes.

Animals can be very emotional creatures. They feel pain and loss. They also feel joy, satisfaction and love. I have no doubts about that.

I just think animal cruelty laws need to be enforced. Funding is a major problem that animal cruelty officers face. There is simply not enough money. Plus education is a big factor as well. The public needs to be educated on how to responsibly care for an animal. So far animal ownership has been held as a right, it needs to be a revocable privilege. Spaying and neutering should be mandatory, unless you have a permit from your city. The amount of animals that pass through shelters on a yearly basis is staggering. About 4-6 million animals are put down in shelters every year. Mainly because of over population. About 10,000 humans are born every day. About 70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day as well. You do the math. This is a major problem, one that is fixable, if the public would only educate themselves and do something about it. Funding and education are our solutions.

Hm, I think this depends on the animal. Most animals have not the brain power to process anything more than achieveing the basic needs of life. It takes creative interpretation to have emotions and feelings like humans have. Having creative interpretation requires a lot of abstract thought that nearly all animals do not have. It's hard to say, but dogs may be the only animal that has lived with humans long enough to either recognize emotion or understand it on a very basic level. They can be happy, I doubt anyone can question that when they see the tail wagging and them jumping up and down. Since they can be happy, it's safe to say they could feel other things as well. But dogs have been with humans for a very long time, and it will take more time to see if they develop further.

As far as abuse and punishment goes, I'd say the penalties are fair enough. We kill cows, pigs and other assorted animals for food. Making dogs fight for money is just another fufilled need that humans desire. Is one more wrong over the other? In the eyes of America, yes. But in those same eyes, humans are worth more than animals. So in turn I say again, the punishments are fair.

It's a proven fact that some animals have emotions. Fear, for example, is seen in most creatures. Elephants will remember the bones of a herd mate and will touch them when walking by.

Abuse on the other hand needs to be carefully defined. Granted cruelty for the sake of pleasure should be punished, however raising animals for food or clothing is no different than hunting them for food.

I dnt think they should receive anymore punishment even though i do get more upset if an animal is harmed than a human but i think that they should be educated more as in telling them that it does hurt the animal and they do feel alot of feelings and they do not deserve to be treated in that way instead of just giving them a fine of sentence

Yes they do...and they are honest...if they are happy they wag their tales...if angry they growl...if scared, they shake and run. Easy...the best thing about animals is that they are honest with their feelings and are far more perceptive than any human because they cant develop reconception about anything...it is all in real time and honest...too bad as human animals, we evolved and no longer have the honest feelings we used to have when we walked on 4 legs.

People who abuse animals are cowardly and are preying on the innocent...and anyone who does that, is a human....I dont like it when these abusers are then called "animals"..no animal preys on or hurts another without provocation or hunger. So we need to stop insulting the animals that way. We need to watch Animal Planet and learn from them...about survival, intelligent living and love for our children.

Animal defiantly have emotions. But if people are caught abusing an animal the punishment is pretty good right now. I think that people should be smart about pets and if they don't want to take care of them then don't get one.

Well in my area people are punished severely for abusing animals...not to the same degree as if they abuse other humans but at least it is recognized as deviant behavior...because a person who is cruel to an animal will also do this to a human...I believe that...

Yes to both!

If you are going to abuse an animal why get one? You don't deserve one!

My cat lets me know when he is lonely and wants my attention. When I'm doing my puzzle book he climb on my lap and stop me, pretty much telling me if you have time for that you have time for me. Every night he sleeps in the same room I'm in right next to me or on my chest.

My dog whines when he wants my attention. he is an outside dog. If I don't go out side and tell him I love him he will whine and whine until I do! Another way he gets my attention is he will dump his water or wrap his chain around the pole. When I go tell Him I love him he speaks back. Jumps up and wraps his front legs around my neck (gives me a big hug). This is a dog that when stands he is as tall as me.

He was given to me when he was 2 years old and the very first thing he did when the people brought him to me was jumped up and gave me a hug. Thats when I knew he was meant for me!!!!!!

Many animals have feelings. Try to take a gorilla's baby away and see what happens. Hunting, poaching should be severely punished
