It's the outside edge of a shape. If you have a square with each side 3 units long, the length of the perimeter is the length of the 4 sides, or 12 units.

The lenth of the out side, IE a 2" by 2" square has a perimeter of 8 inches

perimeter is the sum of vertices of a plane figure. supose if u have a square each side measuring 5 cm then perimeter of it is 5+5+5+5=20.iadded it 4 times because it has 4 sides.
