1st of all, there is NO WAY to save that spoon. If mold appears on your wooden spoon EVERYTIME, then, 1) it must be fuzzy to hold bacteria in the wood and 2) the type of wood it is made out of is very soft and NOT suitable for use in cooking. Studies have shown that, wooden utensils are the SAFESTof any material to use for cooking. You just need to throw that spoon away and buy a quality wooden spoon. There are alot of people that make wooden spoons. If you are fond of the size and shape of that particular spoon then have the Osage Tree make you a new one. They can duplicate it for you. Here is our website.
www.theosagetree.com Please read the entire site and you will see just how incredible Osage Orange is for use in wooden kitchen utensils
Even soaking in bleach won't kill the bacteria in that spoon, besides using it then will only make your food taste like bleach.
Hope this helped. You can call me direct if you have any further questions (816) 934-0155 John
P.S. I would like to know what kind of wood your spoon is made out of. Did you buy it at Wal-Mart ? Those spoons are made from cheap wood that will not last. I have a drawer full of those kind from my mom. They are cracked, burned and discolored. The only reason I keep them is because they were my moms, but I don't use them.

The reason you're getting mold on your wooden spoons all the time is this:

Wood is a porous substance, therefore it soaks up water. The mold comes because the spoons don't dry properly.

Unfortunately, there is only one solution to the problem with your spoons: Throw them away right now!

Mold is inside your spoons. You can get it off the surface by using bleach 50/50 with water. However, it won't remove the mold from inside. You will have to buy new spoons.

With the next set of spoons, let your spoons dry in open air before storing them in the drawer. This will prevent mold formation.

I just found a site with thousands of downloadable woodworking plans, it s really great. You can check it out here ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) Here is an honest review : If you want to start a woodworking project, you need all the necessary information, including schematics, blueprints, materials lists, dimensions etc. That is where TedsWoodworking comes in. The plans are clearly drawn and there're step-by-step explainations of how the plan should be done and put together. There are several other sites whose collection of plans have the dimensions totally wrong without any indication of parts lists, material lists or the tools needed. If you're one of those people who have bought plans like this in the past, TedsWoodworking will change your perception. In Ted's Woodworking you will get everything you need: Diagrams which are detailed with a full set of dimensions, step-by-step instructions how to start your project and the necessary materials for that particular project. All the woodworking tools you will need: If you are a beginner or have done some woodworking you will find these plans easy-to-follow as the instructions are very clearly written. The woodworking plans are straightforward so they are not complicated at all. Even if you are a total newcomer to woodworking you will simply be able to master all the techniques that are needed and the woodworking skills very quickly by following the concise and clear instructions. Another thing which is so great about these woodworking plans is that there have been some videos included and there are some to guide you in how to build benches home furniture dog houses bird feeders sheds and much much more. There is also a lifetime member acess included in the package and you get these extras for no cost to you as they are free with no additional charges at all! This alone is worth the entire price for TedsWoodworking. Ted Mcgrath is a very dedicated and experienced woodworker who knows what he is talking about when it comes to woodworking and DIY projects s he has been a woodworker for many many years. There is only one drawback that we could find and that being with 16,000 woodworking plans you are bound to get some which look a little disorganized but that is understandable as it is very difficult to place all these plans into their proper categories. Secondly, it might take you a little longer to do the downloads on because of the size of them. But the members area include an option to upgrade to the DVD so you can save time on downloading. I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars. Here's the bottom line: If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you SHOULD use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Check the site: ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info )

When you buy new wooden spoons, it is best to coat them in oil before using them. To remove the mold, soak them in bleach water once a week.

A teaspoon of bleach with water. You should just throw the spoon away and get another one. Mold is toxic - you could get sick if you don't remove all of it.

Good Luck.

place the spoon in boiling water to kill the mould.use sandpaper or a scourer to remove any stains caused by the mould.if the mould keeps returning then change where you are storing them.mould will only grow on damp wood, so hang them on the wall or somewhere where they will keep dry.if you cant do this then use bleach in the area you store the spoons to kill the mould spores and make sure it is dry.if you replace the spoons then try to get hardwood spoons as these are more resistant to mould

also, i did mold remediation for years and took classes on the stuff. just to let you know, bleach will not kill mold unless the bleach itself is less than 90 days old. most bleach you get at the store is older than this. all the bleach really does is discolor the mold so you don't see it anymore. the agent you would use to kill it, you wouldn't want on anything that goes into your mouth. (microban is supposed to be safe, but i wouldn't try it).
