Girls, have any of you named your children after someone famous? My partner and I are due to give birth in January 2008 and we are stumped for boys names. We are both quite big Iron Maiden fans and my other half likes the name Nicko (name of the drummer) but i am worried what other people would think. Honest opinions please x

Not intentionally naming my child after someone famous - i love the name and just wondered it people would think i was weird when they realised that someone famous shares the same name.

When i was pregnant i was told i was having a baby girl and i love the glamour model jordan 'katie price' so i decided to name her jordan, but when i had my baby by caeserean i was told 'its a boy' at first i was like 'oh my god what the hell am i going to call him now?' but when i saw him for the first time i thought to myself that jordan is a boys name to and he definately looked like a jordan. I just wont tell his mates he was named after a glamour model ha ha.

I've always liked Nicko/Nico/Niko to be honest and until now, didn't know that was the name of the drummer from Iron Maiden lol. Besides, I love Audrey Hepburn and up until a few months ago that's what I wanted to name a daughter if I had one.

People do tend to think it odd when people name their children after celebrities, but Nicko's a sweet name. How about naming him Nicholas formally and having Nicko as a nickname? Oh god, lots of nicks!

Nicko is not famous enough for us all to click straightaway who you named him after. I think its a very cute name and i think it suits you as iron maiden fans, its a rocker name and if you want to play it straight you could always christen him Nick and add the 'o' as a nickname.

Its nice to have a name with meaning behind it. My son is Harrison, no we didnt name him after Harrison Ford like everyone asks. Harrison was both by husbands Grandfathers name and my Nans maiden name and we just liked it. Now he gets H and Hal off his friends.

Who cares what anyone else thinks anyway, its you that will be shouting it most!?

I was named after some famous Arabian TV anchor. Nicko is nice, but you can find nicer names. By the way, why do you have to name your kid after someone famous ? Never mind about what people will think. I mean it's your kid. You can name him whatever name you want. If they have a problem, they have to deal it with themselves.

I'm a big Smashing Pumpkins fan and also love the name William, but since my hubby knows I love SP I was not allowed to use the name William/Billy at all. He thought it would be like naming our kid after Billy Corgan.
My hubby is a HUGE NY Mets fan, and every name I came up with, he'd find a way to tie to the Mets, a player had whatever name I picked as a first or last name - like when I said Keith, he said, "Yeah, Keith Hernandez", etc. Also, he wanted to name our son Shea (that's the stadium the Mets play at, for all you people across the pond).
So, in the end, we didn't do it. Thank god! We love the name we picked out and it has nothing to do with anyone else, just us.
Good luck picking a name!

I didn´t know the drummer was Nicko, and my husband is a HUGE Iron Maiden fan.

Nicko is a great name-go for it!

Nicko sounds too much like a nickname. The kid could get teased for it. Maybe Nicholas then Nicko can be his nickname.
