Reading through the hate mail, amateur sleuthing and kangaroo courts of the Missing Maddie set has made me think about human nature.

I pray to whatever benign forces there be that I may never find myself involved,no matter how indirectly or inadvertantly,in a crime!

I hadn't realized till now that within so many ordinary, righteous citizens going about their business, lurk ravening wolves- howling for blood. How thin the line of pure chance is that protects me from lynch mobs all too willing to suspend belief in my innocence at a whiff of DNA! How flimsy the veneer of civilisation which protects me from all the butchers, bakers and candlestickmakers yearning to be police, detectives, criminal prosecutors and executioners.

God help us if we ever find ourselves mixed up in a crime because sure as hell our fellowmen won't! They'll be outside the door hollering for blood.
( The guilt or innocence of the Mcanns has nothing to do w/what I am lamenting here....our INhuman nature!)

I agree, mankind is a blood thirsty beast. They would rather watch someone hang than help their neighbor.
