I know this is gonna sound awful but.... The media all seem to now be saying that Maddie is dead but no body has been found etc... Even Kates Lawyer have warned her she may be charged with Maddies causing Maddies death today.

But the blood that was tested by the British Police and that was found in the hire car, on the wall etc can they tell by that blood if Maddie was alive or dead when the blood was dropped, poured, smeared or whatever onto whatever item?

I know its a silly question and i am not scientific at all but if it could be tested in this way it may explain why the Portugese Police have now took this line with Kate and why the media maybe assuming Maddie is now not alive.

Fiddlestick is a complete idiot - why have a go at someone's spelling and grammer!

I think they can tell how the blood got into contact with fabrics yes. I think they can also tell if blood came from a dead body or a live one but the dead body needs to be dead for some time before the blood changes enough to detect the difference (hence a cadaver dog can only sense a dead body that has been dead several hours - the smell changes).

If there is a way of placing the blood sample at the time the little girl disappeared, and if it is established that the blood samples belong the to the missing child, it will be fairly reasonable to assume that the child may be dead. The horrifying scenario is that of making the parent prime suspects.

The hysteria surrounding this case is bizarre in and of itself. Only Kate McCann's family have said that the police are 'declaring' Kate a 'suspect'. Police have made no formal statements. There could be numerous reasons for this action:
1. Police might have reason to believe that Kate had some involvement in the disappearance of her daughter;
2. Police might be preparing to formally charge Kate with child neglect;
3. Police might be holding Kate (after 11 hours of intense questioning) to prevent her from talking with her husband - whom they might also eventually 'declare' to be another 'suspect';
4. This could be a ploy in an attempt to draw out another 'suspect' whom police might know about;
5. This might be a ruse to get the first 'suspect', whom police detained shortly after Maddie's disappearance, to become more cooperative with authorities;
6. This could be a story 'planted' in the media for some ulterior motive;
7. Kate (and her husband) could be prime 'suspects' now.

This YaHoo! forum will be filled with accusations, suspicions, "I told you so" remarks, and blatantly cruel or crude comments. To continue such insensitivities is to profane the McCanns and their daughter. -RKO- 09/07/07

We don't know what questions the police have asked Kate McCann. They might have a good reason for suspecting the child is now dead. It depends on the conversations that have gone on in the police station.

Blood is blood as far as I'm aware. You can't tell if it came from a dead or live person only roughly how long it's been in situ.

They can tell from the composition of the blood (level of oxygen in white blood cells, for example) whether the blood had recently passed through the heart / lungs.
This gives some indication as to the age of the stain but these details are imprecise.
The "splatter pattern" for want of a less-grotesque term, can be as important as the chemical content of the blood, as this can give clues as to the source of the bleed (e.g. artery, vein, gunshot wound, stab wound, etc)

The media have been hinting at these new developm ents over the past week. Maybe they know more than they are saying.

If this case goes on the way it is now heading - what is going to happen to the million or more cash that was donated?

No, I don't think that information can be derived. BTW, Fiddlesticks, if you're going to take someone to task for their spelling/ expression, you might want to work on your use of the apostrophe.... McCann's would be the possessive, not the plural....

That;s a good question. I really wish the news would give out the full story. All we hear is bits...like chinese whisper. The sooner they get the facts and tell us all the better. I was really hoping Maddie would have been found safe and well, but it doesn't look like that now does it?

I would imagine that if the child's blood was found, then it would seem that something dreadful had happened to her.
Obviously they found just tiny specks because somebody had cleaned up.
It has always seemed a very strange case to me because of the attitude of the parents.
