Every Water filter i have owned say not to run hot water through the filter. I am wondering why and also if it happens briefly once do I need a new filter

yes, the hot water melts the glue holding the filter together,
and collapses the fibers in the filter

i have a water filter connected to my cold water system .i dont think it should be connected to your hot water supply.
